Magic

Magic at Supernatural: Lost and Found is a practice requiring patience, time and skill. It is not the magic like one would see in Harry Potter or imagine in Dungeons and Dragons. It can be powerful, but only if you have been practicing for decades and even then powerful spells take a lot out of the caster and they may not be able to function for hours if not days.

Magic is rarely instantaneous, and often requires special components or items gathered together in specific ways. Some magic is more rare than others, and some magic is easier to perform than others. Magic listings reflect these challenges with a few notations.

Power Level: The power level listed is Novice, Professional, Veteran or Expert. The level listed is the required level of the Magic skill the user must have on their +sheet to perform the magic.

Type: Magic is either a Spell or a Ritual. Spells are generally faster to perform and only require a magical incantation to be said with a few simple components present. Rituals require more physical preparation of the location such as the drawing of a symbol and the spreading of a circle made of salt.

Roll: To cast magic, the user needs to roll their Magic skill. The roll is either Static or Contested. A Static roll requires the user to make a successful roll against a target difficulty, determined in the scene. A Contested roll requires both the user and the target character to roll, the success going to the better roller.

Casting Time: Casting Time tells the approximate amount of time it takes to cast the magic, including setting up any circles, lighting candles, drawing symbols or reading incantations. Casting Time does not include gathering components (going to the occult store to buy ingredients, etc.).


Summoning Spells

General Demon Summoning

Power Level: Novice Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

Summoning a demon requires a bowl of appropriate herbs set atop the Sigil of Baphomet, with candles placed on each point of the pentagram. Once the altar is set-up, an invocation in Latin must be spoken:

Attenrobendum eos,
ad ligandum eos,
potiter eos,
coram me.

Once completed, any demon who hears the invocation will manifest in the nearest vessel.

Powerful Demon Summoning

Power Level: Professional Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

Summoning a more powerful, specialized demon such as Azazel uses a summoning ritual requiring blood of the summoner, a bowl of appropriate herbs, an item of appropriate significance and an appropriate sigil, with candles placed in important locations upon the sigil. Once the altar is set-up, an invocation in Latin must be spoken:

Attenrobendum eos,
ad consiendrum,
ad ligandum eos,
potiter et solvendum,
et ad,
congregontum eos,
coram me.

Top-Level Demon Summoning

Power Level: Expert Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 10 minutes

Summoning a top-level, extremely powerful demon such as Crowley uses a summoning ritual requiring blood of the summoner, a bowl of appropriate herbs, an appropriate sigil with candles placed in important locations upon the sigil. Once the altar is set-up, the ingredients must be set aflame and an invocation in Latin must be spoken:

Et ad congregandom, Eos coram me.

Crossroads Demon Summoning

Power Level: Professional Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 30 minutes

The standard method of summoning a crossroads demon first requires the summoner to bury a box/container in the middle of a crossroads. The contents of the box must include graveyard dirt, a bone from a black cat, and a photograph of the person wishing to make a deal. The summoner then recites the Latin:

Daemon, esto subiecto voluntati meae.

Exorcised Demon Summoning

Power Level: Expert Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 60 minutes

This special demon summoning spell is very powerful in that it is possible to summon an exorcised demon, no matter how far in the recesses of Hell it is located or imprisoned. The spell requires a bowl of burning coals placed over a special sigil, then a smaller bowl with the heart of a dog is placed on top of the coals. The blood of the exorcist who exorcised the demon must then be poured over the heart as a Latin incantation is spoken:

Tae invoco apro fundus inferni,

Speaking the invocation will cause the earth in surrounding vicinity to violently shake, until the demon is able to manifest in a human body.

Angel Summoning

Power Level: Novice Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

Summoning an angel or archangel requires a simple ritual that must be performed at sunrise. One only needs to get the angel or archangel’s vessel and then recite an incantation in Enochian:

Raa gah io es,
Vin nonca aaspt poamal de z.

Reaper Summoning

Power Level: Professional Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

Summoning a Reaper who’s name you know only requires reciting this incantation:

Messorum evoco qui me tetigit.

If you do not know the name of a Reaper, the materials to summon a reaper includes: a crucifix, gold ore, hemlock, mace and blood. After painting a trapping sigil on the floor, the ingredients are set on fire as the summoner recites the phrase:

O theristis, kaleo se kai deo.

This summons the reaper to the location and traps it.

Ghost Summoning

Power Level: Novice Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 10 minutes

To summon a ghost, the summoner must go to the ghost’s gravestone, setting up five candles arranged around a pentacle drawn on a cloth spread over the grave. The summoner places a bundle of sticks in the center of the pentacle and pours assorted red herbs in liquid form over the sticks. Then, the summoner recites the Latin command below.

If the grave is not available, the summoner sets up a ritual circle, which includes five candles placed on the points of a pentagram and a bowl into which he pours a jar of assorted red herbs in liquid form. Another jar is on the opposite side of the circle, with more herbs in it, and the summoner places something of importance to the ghost into the center of the circle. The summoner then recites the Latin command:

Aziel, Castiel, Lamisniel, Rabam. Ehrley, et balam, ego vos conuro, per deum verum, per deum vivum. Cuivos cuiaves eos supermontes et per eum, qui adam, et avum formovit. Et per eum…

God Summoning

Power Level: Expert Type: Ritual
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 30 minutes

Summoning a god or goddess, such as Veritas, Chronos or Zeus, requires at least two objects of significance to the being and some action that is symbolic of the being. These things are individual and specific to each god that would be called, as are the Latin incantations used.

Combat Spells

Combat spells are always quick, dirty and violent. They seem incredibly powerful, but the reality is that nearly all of them have easy ways to prevent them from working, including hex bags. Combat spells are also nearly always rooted in evil.

Demon Killing Spell

Power Level: Expert Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

This spell will vaporize all demons within a one-mile radius, including the caster if he or she is a demon. The only ingredient is a person of virtue (a virgin) having their heart cut out of their chest with a dagger as an incantation is spoke. This spell is evil and is not subtle.

Demon Bomb

Power Level: Expert Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

The demon bomb is a powerful spell whose effects are deadly to both demon and host. Three of the known ingredients needed for the demon bomb include: West Bank witch hazel, the skull of an Egyptian calf and the tail of a newt that may or may not be extinct. Once properly mixed, the spell will release shock wave blasting and immolating any demons within it's radius, rendering the bodies nothing but scorch marks on a wall. Due to the rare quality of ingredients, use of this spell is very difficult, as only demons or angels seem to be able to procure the needed materials.

Witch Killing Spell

Power Level: Expert Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 10 minutes

This spell requires fresh chicken feet and an assortment of herbs mixed into a liquid. The liquid is poured into a bottle with a rag, like a Molotov cocktail, and the user lights the bottle while reciting an invocation in Latin:

Ego voco impetu delere,
vos caelum et infernum.

Tossing the bottle at the target causes smoke that envelops the witch as their body disintegrates.


Spontaneous Combustion Spell

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 2 minutes

This spell is a directed attack, where the target will burn from the inside until only ashes remain. It is only effective against humans. It is evil.

Attack Dog Spell

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

Impetus bestiarum (attacks of beasts) is a spell wherein the witch places a hex bag in the hands of someone and recites "impetus bestiarum,” causing the person to take on aggressive animal attributes for 24 hours.

Binding Spells

Binding spells power symbols that can keep a demon or other possessing entity trapped inside the human it is possessing, and they can generally neither escape voluntarily nor be exorcised. Binding sigils can be etched onto various types of restraints like handcuffs, where they work in the same way as having been carved into flesh. Certain binding sigils also appear to weaken the powers of the prisoners they hold.

Devils Trap

Power Level: Novice Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

The devil’s trap is a mystical symbol used to immobilize and control demons. It is similar to a circle of salt but more powerful and persistent as it is usually etched or painted in place, and can't simply be brushed or blown away. If a demon walks inside the outer circle of a devil's trap, it cannot physically leave it, and is trapped. Devils traps also inhibit the use of some demonic powers. While demons can enter a devil's trap without being aware of its presence, they cannot exit it as long as the trap remains intact. Traps can be drawn on the ground below the demon or the ceiling above it, but traps on small objects must be in direct contact with the demon to be effective, such as the demon having to sit on a chair with a devil's trap on it to be confined, or a bullet with a devil's trap on it being only effective when the demon has actually been shot. Traps can remain intact if an object has fallen over the lines drawn on the ground, or if something is concealing the trap from view, such as a carpet, but they cease to be effective if the trap's lines are broken. The trap must be drawn in a visible medium for it to be effective.

Reaper Trap

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

Binding a reaper requires tapping into very dark and powerful magic. To bind a reaper, you must first build a black altar which must be adorned with bones, human blood and a Coptic cross. Getting the reaper to do the summoner's bidding also requires a photo of the intended victim with their face crossed out and placed on the altar as the summoner recites a Latin incantation and holds another coptic cross filled with blood. If the altar and cross are destroyed, the reaper will be released from the binding.

Ghost Binding

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

Binding and controlling a ghost requires the use of a talisman created by reciting an Enochian phrase while dripping the caster’s blood upon the talisman. Once the talisman is destroyed the ghosts quickly turn on the caster, invoking revenge that is equal to any deeds the ghost was forced to do.

Fairy Ring

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

This rare spell is used to bind a fairy to the caster’s will. This ritual must be performed from a book (that’s a component). It requires a bowl of herbs, small flowers and the caster’s blood as the caster reads an incantation from the book. The only way to break the spell is to destroy or damage the book of spells it was cast from.

Other Spells

Terrakinesis Spell

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Static Casting Time: 1 minute

When trapped in a devils trap, this spell will cause a break in it. The spell requires a simple recitation of Latin.

Tracking Spell

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 2 minutes

Tracking spells are used to locate the whereabouts of a specific mundane (non-supernatural) target. The spell uses a special pendulum placed over a map and the caster must know the name of the target as they recite the incantation.

Zod ah ma ra la ee est la gi ro sa.

Cloaking Spell

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Static Casting Time: 10 minutes

A cloaking spell requires a mixture of blood and herbs, with the caster reciting a Latin incantation while holding a black candle and dripping its candle wax into the bowl. The translated Latin from the episode. The final part of the spell requires the caster to set the bowl aflame, which causes the person to vanish for one hour as flames consume the area.

Inuit Spell

Power Level: Novice Type: Spell
Roll: Static Casting Time: 5 minutes

This spell allows for a human to link minds with any animal, allowing communication between the two species for a few minutes. The caster drinks a potion of herbs that includes a strand of fur from the animal the human wishes to link with. Once drunk, the incantation must be spoken:

Deila hér me. Dag eru nou rar vitur orum.

Enacting the spell comes with the side effect of the human exhibiting various characteristics of the animal it has linked minds with.

Expulsion Spell

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 15 minutes

Casting an Expulsion Spell first requires annointing a mixture of herbal powders with a few drops of water from the building the spell is meant to protect and then walking the bowl of herbs around the outside of the building in a clockwise direction. The expulsion spell teleports a person out of the building by throwing an herbal powder at the target while reciting the words:

Abi, ab oculis meis!

Disarm Spell

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Static Casting Time: 2 minutes

This Chinese spell causes a target’s weapon to heat up in their hand, making it too hot to remain holding. This requires a mixture of herbs ground into a powder being thrown at the target and reciting the words:

Shen ti R áN Shao!

Famulatus Spell

Power Level: Expert Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 10 minutes

Famulatus is a servitude spell. To enact it, one must place a hex bag with herbal ingredients in the palm of the intended servant-to-be’s hand and say “famulatus.” The person will then become a servant to whomever placed the spell on them as long as the hex bag remains on the servant’s person.

Wings of Titania

Power Level: Master Type: Spell
Roll: Static Casting Time: 15 minutes

Wings of Titania allows the caster to have an out of body experience, taking them to see their intended target. Should their body be injured, they are immediately returned into it. This spell uses a mixture of herbal ingredients placed in a bowl. A structure made of small bones is then constructed in the bowl before an object belonging to the targeted person is draped over it. Once set up, an invocation must be spoken:

Wings of Titania, bear mine eyes aloft as I bid thee.

Abite Spell

Power Level: Novice Type: Spell
Roll: Static Casting Time: 1 minute

A simple spell in which the caster merely says the word “Abite” (get or go away) and throws his or her hands to the side. This causes the destruction of any mundane objects in their path, but does not destroy walls or buildings.

Cabirian Invocation

Power Level: Novice Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 10 minutes

The Cabirian Invocation breaks a curse or spell that has been cast on an object. The ritual is very simple, but achieving success requires being greater in spell mastery than the caster of the spell or curse being undone. The user must prepared a mini altar upon which they place a plate. A purple flower must be put on the plate. A handful of yarrow powder is poured into the plate and ignited while the Latin spell is recited:

Purificare la magia

After reciting the spell, the fire will rise from the plate and the spell or curse will be undone - or not.

Illumination Spell

Power Level: Novice Type: Spell
Roll: Static Casting Time: 5 minutes

The Illumination spell requires the ashes of a purple flower and yarrow powder, both burned into ashes in the casting of any previous ritual. The ashes are blown at the intended target and the user recites a Latin word:

Illuminia

After reciting the spell, the target will be illuminated in a soft glow.

Immobilization Spell

Power Level: Professional Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 5 minutes

This spell paralyzes a target, including demons and angels in meatsuits. The caster simply says “Manete” (Latin for “remain”) to freeze a person where they stand. While the demon or angel is unable to effectively fight back while under the spell, they may be able to move their arms to block a physical blow. The spell has the added effect that even if the demon or angel moves to another vessel, their powers remain useless. This spell lasts two hours.

Dark Medic Spell

Power Level: Expert Type: Spell
Roll: Static Casting Time: 15 minutes

The caster must prepare a concoction made from various liquors and smear the concoction onto their hands. An ancient Sumerian incantation must then be recited as the caster lays their hands on the wound needed healed:

Mahday, eelohtah sahn. Serloh, eelohtah.

The target will immediately healed after the recitation. This spell is viewed as based on dark magic and is considered to be evil in nature.

Chinese Mind-control Spell

Power Level: Novice Type: Spell
Roll: Contested Casting Time: 2 minutes

The caster simply has to slice their hand, drawing blood and uttering the magic word: “Xi.” Once cast, the spell will take root inside the victim's mind, allowing the user to bend their target's mind to hallucinate that their throat is closing so they can't breathe. The spell can be broken by simply knocking the caster unconscious. This spell requires the caster to remain in line of sight of the target. If the caster leaves the area, the spell breaks.
