Clifton had been to town yesterday, visiting the Gallows and ensuring Lillie that he was in fact alive. Today had seen the Walker out and helping around the mountainside. While he was healed, it still wasn't realistically enough time for town to believe any normal person would have recovered from the trampling Clif had endured. So when he went into town he faked a limp and he didn't want to bother with that today. It was late afternoon, the sun starting to set as he carries a basket and goes about finding whatever mushrooms or herbs they can use for dinner.

Clyde's been working pretty heavily on the sapre room, it's coming along pretty fast, may be done before the first frost, even. But currently he went out to take a leak and stretch his legs. The man is headed back now, big thoughts rolling around in his mind. He can see/smell Clifton , dark eyes scanning to he sees the cowsin with the basket. "Dinner?"

Stopping mid bend, Clifton looks over at Clyde's approach. "Yeah." Putting some mushrooms in the basket he reaches for another handful, "Figured get us enough for tomorrow too maybe to keep ahead of it." Plus give him some more time out of the house and to stretch his legs. Putting the new handful in with the rest, he stands, "Spare Room is really coming along" he offers. "Need me to go into town and see about ordering anymore supplies?"

Clyde nods, his expression just one of a tired man. "It is. Should be done before it gets too cold." Dark eyes study Clifton before he sighs softly and looks to the food. "We need ta start cannin'. Beside that, I don't need nothin'." He's been rather quiet since the boar incident. He pulls out his beat up pack of cigarettes and pulls one out.

Clifton watches Clyde and listens to his response, offering a nod. "Alright. I'll double check what supplies we're low on with Ethel for canning and get that then." Fully aware of the Alpha's demeanor since the whole boar fiasco, Clifton had kept his own distance. Figuring if Clyde had wanted to say anything to any of them he would. In his own time. As Clyde moves to pull out a cigarette, Clifton bends down to gather another handful of mushrooms into the basket. That should be enough to last them a couple meals at least.

Matches are pulled out and he strikes one to light his smoke. The Alpha's chest expands as he take in a large lung fun of cancer. He's been smoking a lot more lately. "Find out if she's ordered that violin strings yet fer Jesse." Clude rubs his face and then tries to unsuccessfully push his hair away from his face.

Clifton stands back up fully, seeming satisfied with the haul in his basket. "I'll check with her" he confirms with Clyde. Eyeing the cigarette he looks to the Alpha "Want me to pick you up some more cigarettes while I'm in town?"

Clyde nods, Ethel will know best about what they all need. His gaze lowers and he looks into his slightly smooched pack, like he's counting the cigarette. "….No. I was gonan go into town tomorrow ta check on somethings. I'll get them then." Besides, money's tight with everyone not working, he may have to go with out. The mushrooms are eyes and he tries to not sigh. "I may go hunting in a bit. Another boar would be good." There had been talk of smoking some of it, but there wasn't enough left to bother.

"Alright. If you're sure." The mention of a boar has Clifton eyeing the basket himself "A hunt sounds good. Once I get these back to the house I can come with you." Granted he always tried to help around the house or make himself useful, but there had been a heightened eagerness since the other night. Not that the idea of killing another boar didn't also sound good for other reasons. Damn boars!

Clyde's nose wrinkles as he thinks, "I…If ya want, sure." More the merrier, right? He scratches at his chest. "Spear or claw?" Seems he's letting Clifton decide.

Clifton thinks it over a moment. Granted he wasn't keen on the idea of getting trampled by boars again anytime soon, but he also didn't like the idea of letting what happened get to him. "Claws."

Clyde takes another drag, watching as Clif works out whatever it is he is. "Claws it is." He's pleased claws were chosen. It's the better choice, he thinks.

The affirmation from Clyde earns a grin from Clifton and a nod as if confirming his choice was the right one. "Once I'm good to walk around in town normally again I'll go back to work at the feed store. I stopped in yesterday when I went and the owner said he's going to need a lot of help with the coming season." He lifts his thumb to chew on his nail a bit "Got a few photography gigs lined up too. Family portrait session. Hopefully a few holiday sessions too. So all that should be some good money for the jar."

Clyde just grunts about the jobs. It's hard to tell if he approves or not. "Gonna be a tight winter." He finishes off the cigarette. "Let's drop off the basket first." Let Ethel do what she wants with it.

Clifton watches the Alpha's reaction, just offering a nod "Tight, but we'll make it." He wouldn't tell him not worry because it wasn't that easy. All he could do was offer reassurance. "For now though, yeah. Let's drop off the basket and go hunt." He'd start in the direction of the house. He's quiet for a moment, a bit of a pause in the conversation, before he looks towards the ground as they walk. "Tried getting a feel while I was in town. From what I could tell…nobody is talking about coming up here after the boars again. At least not anytime soon. So we should be alright…but we still may want to increase our patrols."

Yes, telling the Alpha to not worry would probably be a bad choice. The man grunts again, scratching at his chest more. Quiet insues as they walk, Clyde seems content to not talk. He just nods, rubbing at his tired eyes briefly, "I'm plannin' on talkin' ta Vet Styne bout it. We'll drive them down at some point, after everyone is healed." Well, the perception that everyone is healed up.

Getting closer to the house, Clifton listens to Clyde's plan. "Sounds good." He falls silent then, letting their travels fall back into quietness as his own mind wanders over various thoughts. His talk earlier with Lillie passes through his mind, again Clif disturbing the early evening's peace. It might just make the Alpha grumpier, but he knew he'd want to know. "Saw Lillie in the Gallows when I went. Was talking about how she's safe to go back to her house."

That gets the Alpha's attention and he frowns, "Who said it was safe?" Damn it, Lillie! Clyde's chest tightens slightly and the man bites his lower lip and looks towards the house. Grumpier? Maybe, but there;'s that worry creeping into his face again.

Clifton stops in their steps, keeping any potential ears from overhearing maybe. He turns to face Clyde. "Frank apparently. There were conditions, precautions she had to take, but yeah. I knew you'd want to know." The least he could do. "Lillie made it sound like he has some new leads in all this demon stuff or figured out how to fix it. So I'm going to talk to him. See if he'll tell me anything or what we can do on our end."

Clyde doesn't really even know how to feel about that. The old man knew things, but…is Lillie really safe? "Yeah…thanks." He sounds unsure though, like maybe he's not certain he's happy she;s gotten the all clear just yet. "Talk ta him, find out what ya can."

"I will." Clifton's tone was determined. He knew how important Lillie was to Clyde. To him too as a friend. For Clyde…it was more than that though and Clif felt even more of a need to protect the woman due to it. He then looks to the Alpha "Why don't you go stay with her a couple nights? I'm sure she'd appreciate your company." And it could give Clyde a peace of mind about it too.

Clyde snorts at that suggestion, "N' have everyone in a tizzy here?" Everyone? Well, almost everyone. Clifton might be the only one that wouldn't freak out over it. Wild curls flail about, "No. I ain't got enough respect now as Alpha, I leave here for a few days….that ain't gonna end well." He inhales like he's going to say something else, but then just shakes his head and starts towards the house.

Clifton furrows a brow "Clyde. If they get in a tizzy then that's on them. You do a damn fine job as an Alpha and whether or not they admit it to you or themselves, everybody here knows it." He shakes his head "Lillie is important to you. You love her. Go do yourself and her some good and BE with her." Clif then takes a breath, keeping eye contact with the Alpha, exhaling. "I can handle things here long enough to at least give you that. Let me at least do that much for you. Please."

Clyde does not believe that for a second. But that a one of those things that's pointless to argue. His jaw tightens and he breaks eye contact at the please, "It's….more complicated than that, Clifton." Damn it, he didn't want to talk about this. He didn't want to talk, he wanted to kill something. "Dot's got eyes fer me. It….The pairin' makes sense." He snarls, but it's directed inward, "My wolf wants cubs, Clifton. It's pullin' me all over the place….I …I love Lillie, but….Shit, I don't know." He really doesn't know what to do.

"I know it's complicated, Clyde but…" Clifton tenses, listening to what Clyde says next. His brow furrows as his gaze goes to the ground a moment. What the hell!? Okay more complicated than he thought! "Do you love Dot?" He looks back to the Alpha then, whether or not Clyde looked back at him. "Because she deserves somebody that loves her just as much as Lillie deserves it. Don't act out of some obligation or sense of primal duty. That's not fair to any of you."

Damnit this is why he was a fucker and not a lover! "Last time we talked about this you were ready to break things off with Lillie because of how crazy she made your wolf. Now you're saying your wolf wants cubs so Dot is the 'practical choice'?" It isn't said accusatory, more just genuinely confused. "We aren't separated from our wolves. They are us and we are them. It's just about figuring out what YOU want and finding a way to balance that with your instincts to make it work."

Clifton falls quiet a moment to let Clyde think and also to think himself. "Look. You've been away from Lillie for awhile, taking care of everything up here. Go just…be with her for the couple nights. Let yourself feel things out with her. Figure out what you're feeling or wanting. It might help…"

Clyde's poor frown, it deepen, "I care bout her, Clif, I don't know her well enough ta love her." That's fair. Clyde's not one to just jump into love. Even with Lillie. He huffs, primal duty. "I gotta marry a pure blood. I know that. Lillie knows I gotta marry, and it can't be her." If Clif thinks he's confused, think about how Clyde feels! "Lillie promised she'd not get inta any more danger." Which could be the reason Clyde's so leary of her going home with this demon on the lose. He glances over at the house, "It ain't just practical, Dotty's a fine catch. I just…." He closes his eyes and huffs, "You know what i mean." about his wolf. "I can't think when I'm around Lillie." That's possibly not a good sign either.

Clifton watches Clyde, seeing that frown. Listening to his frustration. He knew he wasn't doing this just to be cruel to Lillie, otherwise he would have already launched himself at the Alpha. After everything with Jesse and now this? But if he was thinking this, Clyde no doubt had already bludgeoned himself with it mentally and emotionally. It was obvious Clifton was tired and defeated in his own way too though. They all had their struggles and none of them seemed good about venting.

"I know what you mean…" Clifton looks to the ground again, brow furrowing as he lets out a huff of breath. "But…it's not something that's going to be figured out tonight. And it's obviously not something you need to be thinking about more than you already have been so…" The Beta's gaze goes towards the house "I'll take the basket inside…give it to Ethel. Then let's go kill ourselves some boars."

A long pause and the Clyde just nods, either to not thinking, or more liking about killing boars.
