Background
♫Look there she goes that girl is strange, no question. Dazed and distracted, can't you tell? Never part of any crowd. 'Cause her head's up on some cloud. No denying she's a funny girl that Belle.♪
Leona Styne came to Higsi nearly 15 years ago at the young age of twelve. She came with her father, Henry, and her grandfather who is known today simply as 'Doctor Styne.' For many years, the family lived and worked together in harmony.
But something changed. Miss Higgins swears it was a thundering night, but the shouting in the house could be heard over the crack of God's wrath. Come the wet, sunny morning, Henry and his family moved out and took a house on the outskirts of town. A cold wind blew any time father and son were in eyeshot of each other for the next many years.
Henry slowly became the town's trusted veterinarian. And, when he passed three years ago, his daughter Leona took up his clients. She lives in a little homestead outside of town with some fields and a selection of animals.
Reputation
Leona is a handsome woman, pleasant to deal with and very warm with friend and stranger alike. It's a bit of a surprise and a shame she never did marry, but then in all her years in town it doesn't seem like she ever had a proper suitor anyway.
It might be her odd beliefs that keep her a spinster. She's been known, once or twice, to philosophize about man being made in G-d's image, and if that's the case then perhaps the powers of the Almighty may well be attainable by us mere mortals. Strange business for a woman to be on about.
After all, vetrenary work isn't really a woman's place. But no one can really argue that she does it well. A few of the farmers outside of town will swear with their hand on a bible that she brought a few of their prize livestock back from the brink of death.
RP Hooks
Town Veterinarian. Need a pet, cow, sheep, or even yourself stitched up? Leona can do all of those things, and she has nearly a preternatural ability for doing so.
A Little Odd. She's a bit of an odd duck, that Leona. She's been known to talk before about the miracles of science and the power of faith coming together to do things neither can do alone. But really only when asked, and who's going to ask her about that sort of thing?
War Mongerer. Leona is full steam ahead for the war effort. Burn the Nazis alive is her theory, and that damn Hirohito too. She's constantly looking for ways to be involved in and support the war effort.
Quirks
Warm and Polite. Leona is known as a personable woman with a clever and worldly sense of humor.
Blood and Brains. Her work means that she's constantly got a hand up a cow's uterus, or that she's stepping in pig shit. Not only does the gore not bother her, but she often offers to dispose of remains or ailing animals as part of her services.
Fastidious. Aside from her work, Leona is a very neat person. Everything should be in it's place. Clothes should be pressed. It's not about being fancy. It's about being tidy.
Spinster. She's never been known to be courted by any man during her years in town. And while, at functions and gatherings, she loves to dance, it seems she's never really found the right one for her. Poor dear.
Styne Family Drama. Leona is a member of the Styne family, although her relations with the paterfamilias are aloof following ten years of family feuding. Still, it's a good and respectable name to have about the town, and she wears it well.
